Photo Library and Photo Location

Keep real photos for every location, describe them so posts match the picture, choose which ones Autopilot uses, and tag each photo with the business's town.

Feature overview: Google Business Profile Posts

Every location has a photo library under Posts -> Media. Posts, Autopilot and AI assistants all pick from it, and Photo Location tags each photo sent to Google with the business's town, name and services. There is no limit on how many photos you store.

Real photos of the business, its work and its team make the best posts. Google asks businesses to avoid stock photos and heavily edited images.

Upload photos

  • JPEG, PNG and WebP up to 20 MB each, and iPhone HEIC where supported. At least 250 pixels on the short side
  • Up to 20 at a time: Upload under Posts -> Media, Upload a Photo in the composer, or drop or paste a photo into the composer
  • Every photo goes out to Google as a JPEG sized for Google posts. Your original stays as you uploaded it
  • An AI assistant can add photos from a link with add_media_from_url, and Social share images land here too
Worth knowing

This is a customer-side screen. Because you are in your agency account, you can reach it two ways: go to Business -> Customers -> Manage Customers and click Open dashboard on the customer: you go into their dashboard with nothing locked, even features their plan hides, and a bar at the top shows whose dashboard you are in (handy for done-for-you setups or granting access beyond a plan); or choose View as customer on the same page to see their dashboard exactly as they see it, with their plan's limits. If your sidebar shows the Agency / Customer switcher, the Customer tab plus the location switcher is a shortcut to the same place.

Describe each photo

  • Edit on a photo opens Edit Photo: a title, What does the photo show? and Text for screen readers
  • The description lets posts match the text to the picture. Autopilot uses described photos
  • Click the part of the photo that matters most to set the focal point. Crops keep it in view
  • Changes apply to posts you make from now on. Posts already written keep the photo as it was

Organise the library

  • New Folder, Rename Folder and Delete Folder. Folders go up to three deep
  • Select photos, then Move to put them in a folder
  • Shared folders hold photos every location of the customer can use
  • Filters: In Autopilot, No Description and Not in Any Post
  • Switch between Grid and List

Photos for Autopilot

  • Tick Use in Autopilot on a photo, or select several and click Add to Autopilot
  • 5 or more photos are recommended, each with a description
  • A photo is not reused at the same location within 30 days
  • With none in the pool, Autopilot posts go out without a photo

Photo Location

Photo Location is on by default. Each copy sent to Google with a post is tagged with the business's town, name and services. The original in Media is never changed, and the camera's own location is always removed. It applies to every post, written by Autopilot, an assistant or a person.

  • For a business whose address shows on Google: the centre of the town in its address
  • For a business whose address is hidden on Google: the centre of the first town it serves there, or else the first confirmed area served that is a town. A hidden address is never used
  • Change it per location under Posts -> Settings, Publishing tab, Photo Location card: Geotag photos sent to Google, then Save
  • Your playbook (Business -> Publishing, Playbook tab) sets the default for every customer under Photo location. Untick Customers can turn this off to keep it as you set it
  • Choose Town sets the town yourself, and Clear Chosen Town goes back to the automatic one
  • The services are the business facts confirmed as services, at most 10
  • Leave one photo out in Edit Photo: untick Geotag this photo when it goes to Google. It also applies to posts already planned that have not gone out
  • A Geotagged badge in Media shows the photos that will carry the town. AI-generated images go out untagged
  • When no town can be found, photos go out untagged, the card says why, and Choose Town fixes it. A post is never held for this
  • A change applies from the next post that goes out. Posts already on Google keep the photo they went out with
Worth knowing

For agencies, what the copy carries: GPS latitude and longitude (WGS-84), ImageDescription with the business name and town, and XPKeywords with the services and the town. Camera details, dates and the photo's own GPS are removed first, and nothing else is written.

Safe deletes

  • A photo used by a post that has not gone out yet, including a failed post, is kept, and the post is named under Used by:
  • Remove the photo from those posts, or cancel or delete them, then delete it
  • Deleting a folder moves its photos up one level
