Automate Review Requests from Square POS Sales

When a payment completes in Square, EmbedMyReviews adds the customer to a review campaign and sends the request by SMS or email at the time you choose. Refunded payments are skipped automatically.

No marketplace app to install. The connection runs on a production access token from your own Square application, and the webhook subscription is created for you during setup.

"Hi Emily! Thanks for visiting Style Studio today. We'd love to hear about your experience..."

How It Works

Three steps in the setup wizard. The webhook subscription is created on your Square account for you.

1

Connect your Square account

Paste the production access token from your application's Credentials page in the Square Developer Dashboard. It is validated on the spot and stored encrypted.

2

Choose a campaign, locations, and when to send

Pick the review campaign, choose all locations or specific ones fetched live from your account, then send immediately, up to 24 hours after the payment, or the next morning at a set time.

3

Create the webhook and verify delivery

The webhook subscription is created on your account and Square is asked to send a test event. Completed payments start flowing into the campaign.

What triggers a request, and what never does

The integration listens to payment and refund events and acts only on payments that completed. Customers whose money came back are never asked for a review.

A payment reaching Completed schedules a review request, once per payment
Canceled or failed payments cancel any pending request
A refund before the send cancels the request, even while the integration is paused
Payments at locations you did not select, and zero-amount payments, are ignored
Timing is anchored to when the payment completed, so a late webhook delivery never shifts the send

Integration Features

Built around how Square reports sales: a payment event when it completes, and a refund event when money goes back.

Your token, your control

Connects with a production access token from your own Square application. No marketplace app, and you can revoke the token from the Developer Dashboard at any time.

Location selection

All locations, or only the ones you pick. The list is fetched live from your Square account during setup, so a multi-location business can leave a location out.

Timing you control

Immediately, 15 minutes to 24 hours after the payment, or the next morning at a chosen time in your timezone.

Refund-aware

A refund cancels the pending request. Refunds are processed even while the integration is paused, so nothing slips through during a break.

Customer details become contacts

The buyer email on the payment is used first. If it is missing, the linked Square customer record supplies the email, name, and phone, so requests can go out by SMS, email, or both.

Payment log and counters

Every payment received, skipped, cancelled, or sent is listed with its reason, alongside totals for payments received and requests sent.

What you need before connecting

EmbedMyReviews connects to Square through a production access token from an application you own, with no marketplace app. The setup wizard validates the token before anything is saved.

  • A Square application in the Square Developer Dashboard. Creating one is free and takes a few minutes.
  • The application's Production Access Token, found under Credentials. This is what lets the webhook subscription be created and your locations be listed.
  • A review campaign with SMS or email configured through your own provider.

Create Webhook & Send Test

On the last step the webhook subscription is created on your account and Square is asked to send a test event, so you can see delivery working before the first real sale.

The test event is confidence, not a gate

If the test does not arrive straight away, you can still activate. Real payment events are delivered independently of the test, and each one appears in the payment log with its outcome.

BYOK

Review requests triggered by Square payments are sent through your own Twilio (SMS) or SMTP (email) accounts. You pay wholesale rates directly, with no EmbedMyReviews markup on messaging.

Common questions

How does EmbedMyReviews connect to Square?

Through the production access token of a Square application you create in the Square Developer Dashboard. There is no marketplace app to install. The token is validated during setup and stored encrypted, the webhook subscription is created on your account for you, and you can revoke the token from the Developer Dashboard at any time.

Which payments trigger a review request?

Payments that reach Completed status in Square, at the locations you selected. Each payment is only ever asked once, even if Square delivers the update more than once. Payments that are canceled or fail cancel any pending request, and zero-amount payments are skipped.

Can I limit it to certain locations?

Yes. During setup the integration fetches your locations live from Square and you choose all of them or specific ones. Payments at locations you did not select are ignored and never appear as requests.

What happens when a payment is refunded?

A refund recorded before the send cancels the pending request, so the customer is not asked to review a purchase they got their money back on. Refund events are processed even while the integration is paused, so pausing for a holiday does not let a refunded sale slip through when you resume.

When is the request sent?

You choose during setup: immediately, a fixed delay from 15 minutes up to 24 hours after the payment, or the next morning at a set time in your timezone. The delay is measured from when the payment completed in Square, not from when the webhook arrived.

Where does the customer's contact information come from?

From the buyer email attached to the payment first. If the payment has none, the linked Square customer record supplies the email, name, and phone number. A payment with no reachable email or phone on either is listed in the log as skipped, with the reason shown.

Connect Square and let completed payments ask for the review.
